Call for application
The Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) seeks to hire
a junior researcher
to work half time for three years in the WZB bridging project “CulturalFraming”, situated between the WZB research units „Market Behavior“ and the unit „Cultural Sources of Newness“.
Results of laboratory experiments have prompted economists to conjecture that rational actors behave in line with social preferences like trust or fairness. There are some indications that the frames, i.e. the rules and procedures of such experiments shape the results of the experiments. The project attempts to use the specifications of experimental frames to find out more about the relevance of cultural differences in dealing with social coordination problems.
The project is under the supervision of the directors of the two research units. It is staffed with two doctoral positions.
Tasks: The task of the sociologist’s position is to record and interpret the process of designing, executing and interpreting the experiment series, to contribute own suggestions to its design and to come up with a sociologically relevant interpretation of the results.
The project is expected to be completed after three years. By then, the two researchers should have completed their dissertations in sociology and economics, respectively.
Requirements: This call for application is addressed to researchers with a graduate degree in cultural sociology, economic sociology, or related fields. Besides an excellent record, two references are required. English language competence is necessary, competence in German is helpful.
Salary: The position is half-time, the salary level corresponds to pay group E 13 Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD).
The contract can start on December 1, 2010. Applications should be addressed to
Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung gGmbH
Michael Hutter (email: chris@wzb.eu), Reichpietschufer 50, 10785 Berlin, Germany
